Ah, Moogles! Cute and cuddly, nothing they do will make me want to hurt one. Till seven of these little chumps try to jump you in the Shroud with their King leading the charge. So they wanna throw down? Lets throw down. Party setup!
Tank: Just make your life easier and Warrior cause I'm biased. Paladin can do it too, but Steel Cyclone + Collision > Flash.
Bard: Necessary! One at least. You need Ballad of the Magi up for consistency. This is a Black Mage heavy party as well, and even the White Mages need that heal here.
Black Mages: Stacked. Hard. Black Mages will devour these little guys without breaking a sweat.
White Mages; You know why, and two of course.
Dragoon/Monk: These work fine in this fight as well. Hell, you can take a party of dragoons and monks with no BLM and probably outdps them. Moogle is a chump!
The simplicity of this fight is very nice, its at a whole different pace from Ifrit. No plumes, no sudden dashes, no crap flying around. However if your party is not well informed then it can prove to be difficult. Let's talk about the phases and positioning.
Phase 1: Pre-Astral Flow Upon entering the arena, your party will be facing the GLA moogle. Once you engage, another moogle will spawn at random, and another and another till all seven spawn. Your role during this phase is to DPS those moogles fast, and hard. The reason for this is if every moogle isn't dropped by the time the King spawns, his astral flow will OHKO the party. The tank's job isn't necessarily to tank either, which may sound odd but your job is to generate as much emnity as you can on each moogle before Astral Flow. If you keep hate though, good, you're pro. If not try to stay at least in the red zone. Also remember you're fighting against the clock, the King has a designated spawn timer so no time to waste!
Transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2: Astral Flow
Once all seven moogles are dropped, all party members gather together in the center for buffs. One WHM will stoneskin, the other will stoneskin after Astral Flow. The bard will cast Battle Voice and we may be able to get an AoE Sanguine Rite. Everyone else use Sentinel or Rampart if able.
One Black Mage will be designated as the 'Collision Mage.' What he does is cast Sanguine Rite, then Flare as the King starts to cast his Astral Flow. What this does is generate emnity for the Warrior to kite the moogles around. It's just an extra push of emnity. If your tank is a Paladin, you can skip this step.
Everyone with emnity down skills should use them after Astral Flow. This will help the tank.
Once the tank begins kiting the moogles, you will need to kill one by one. Every linkshell/party has a different order. This is the order we will be using in our moogle encounters.
Pukla Puki the Pomburner (THM)
Whiskerwall Kupdi Koop (GLA)
Pukna Pako the Tailturner (THF)
Woolywart Kupqu Kogi (ARC)
Puksi Piko the Shaggysong (BRD)
Ruffletuft Kupta Kapa (MRD)
Furryfoot Kupli Kipp (WHM)
King Moggle Mog XII
Watch for petrify! If the tank or a WHM gets petrified, Esuna takes priority.
The only skill you need to watch out for is Pomflare. It's actually the reason you want to kill the THM moogle first. That skill can disorganize and create chaos, usually leading a party to imminent wipe. The King will also do this skill so if you see this punk casting with a purple aura, run away from it. It can't be good either way.
King Mog enjoys resetting hate, and sometimes he gets hate reset happy. If a DPS has hate, immediately begin kiting him along the tank path unless instructed to wait. Is is possible for his hate reset to be on a short timer so you have to be prepared for unlucky fights.
Avoid using AoE skills unless you know it's safe. You don't want to pull a horde of moogles on you.
This is a simple fight and like Ifrit, experiencing first hand will make things easier. Any job can enjoy this fight as well so… grab whatever you want and just DPS hard.
